“With Love in Every Stitch” is a program that creates an opportunity for friends of The Max Foundation within Edmonds and the US to make a difference from their own living room by knitting colorful hats that are delivered by our team members to children receiving chemotherapy treatment in Mexico, Russia, Uzbekistan, Guatemala, and beyond.  What follows is a letter from Nataliya, one of our Program Officers who traveled recently to Uzbekistan and personally delivered hats to the children’s ward of the hospital.

Dear friends,

In 2011, our With LOVE in Every Stitch program reached more than 400 children!  This year's goal is to collect more than 500 hats!

Hats made by you with love and care are now being sent across the globe to brighten so many faces. The little patients speak different languages, have different doctors and friends and different plans what they will achieve after they win their battle with cancer, but their reaction to your hats is always the same: big exciting smile and trying the hat on right away! It was my honor to personally deliver your precious gifts to the Children’s Hospital of The Institute of Hematology and Transfuziology in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). Every child who at that time was receiving treatment there got to pick a hat and give us back a smile. But the moment that showed me how important this is for children was when I got to meet a young patient Bobir, who came with his mom, Gulbahor, for a follow up visit with his physician. They live very far away from Tashkent, and have to save money to afford the trip to the clinic, but he is doing great and the medication he is taking is working very well. He was looking at me with a shy smile, while passing a loaf of bread – a very special gift in Uzbekistan. I asked him if he wants to take a picture with me and it made him so happy! Only then I noticed that in his other hand he is holding a knitted hat and I could tell right away that it came from one of you. I asked Bobir if he likes his hat and his mom explained that since last year, when he received it from our representative, he always has his hat with him because he believes that the hat has magic powers and keeps him healthy.

These photos (see the photo gallery on our website: http://www.themaxfoundation.org/news/FullStory.aspx?storyid=158) represent a big thank you, on behalf of every girl and boy, for the beautiful hats and the magic powers you give!
